‘Growing Matters’ is a charity based at Gilmerton House Kitchen Garden aiming to offer a place for volunteers to help develop the garden and to benefit their health and wellbeing.
There are two regular volunteering sessions a week – Monday (10am-1pm) and Thursday (1-4pm). Volunteers can take part in a variety of gardening activities and can do as much or as little as they like. The main aim is to offer an environment for people to enjoy the benefits of working alongside others in a peaceful and relaxing environment and there are opportunities to learn more about gardening, horticulture and beekeeping. There is also a volunteer-led therapeutic horticulture session on Wednesdays (9.30am-12.30pm) which includes some meditation, mindful walking, sharing and and gardening.
All sessions have tea breaks and there is usually some home baked cake!
Open day (Saturday 1 September – 11am-4pm)
June Tainsh will demonstrate apple pruning at around 11.45am, there will be refreshments and an opportunity to learn more about the garden and our aims.
